London Friend is host to Families Together, a peer-led group of parents and family members of LGBT people. They meet at London Friend on the 4th Tuesday of every month (please see our diary for specific dates).

HEALTH AT FRIEND

Health at Friend is an innovative project developed by London Friend to support members of the LGBT community through a telephone befriending service and a support group for carers.
The project will primarily support LGBT residents of Islington, City, Hackney and Camden. All the services are for people aged 18 or over and free to users.

The Telephone Befriending Service is for LGBT people who for any reason find it hard to get out and need support. They might have health problems, physical or mental, and want to talk to another person from the LGBT community.
Any agency can refer, or people can contact London Friend directly if they want to access the telephone befriending service. The service user will then be contacted by the Volunteer Co-ordinator, to find out a little more about them and to match them with a volunteer, who will be given details about the client and call them directly to discuss regular contact times and dates.

The Carers Support Group is aimed at LGBT people who are full- or part-time carers. They might be looking after children with additional needs, parents, partners, neighbours or friends.
The support group will meet at the London Friend office and will decide what topics it wants to look at or come up with ideas of fun things to do. The aim of the group is to provide a place where carers can get support but also relax and have fun.

If you would like to access either of these projects, just call London Friend on 020 7833 1674 and speak to Rita, the Volunteer Co-ordinator.

Voluntary and statutory organisations can refer anyone to these services.
You can either call us or email rita@londonfriend.org, giving us the following information:

  • Your name;
  • Job title;
  • Organisation;
  • Telephone number;
  • Email;
  • Name of the person you are referring;
  • Their telephone number;
  • Address;
  • Service needed: Telephone Befriending or Carers Group.
We ask that you have talked to the person you are referring in advance, so they know that their details are being given to London Friend.
